The Open Office

Open floor plan office designs have become increasingly popular for their collaborative nature. Teams share a large space complete with gathering areas to brainstorm and work together on projects. For this project the client was looking to renovate an existing space into an open work space.  Areas for teams to gather comfortably was of high importance. The overall aesthetic of the space was created by exposing and refinishing existing aged brick and floor boards to keep a rustic feel.

The Light well concept shown in the image to the right was part of the office renovation proposal for the buildings lobby. The client expressed an interest in getting daylighting to the basement space below. The light well was proposed as an opportunity to carry natural daylighting from the first floor down to the basement below. It also offered a reverse opportunity during evening hours to be illuminated from below as a lighting feature in the lobby space.
